Putting Your Braces On
Our trained orthodontist fits your braces so you can begin your journey to straight, healthy teeth and jaws — done with great care and as little discomfort as possible.
How They Feel
Your teeth may be sore and tender to biting for three to five days, and your lips, cheeks, and tongue may feel irritated for a week or two as they toughen. Orthodontic wax relieves any offending bracket — discomfort is short-lived, and soon you may even forget your braces are on.
Adjustments
Your braces are adjusted every 4 to 6 weeks. You may feel some discomfort afterwards — we'll advise on simple methods for relief.
Your Last Appointment
Taking your braces off is easier and faster than you might think — about fifteen minutes, revealing perfectly shiny teeth. Now's a great time for that "after" photo!
How Braces Work
Braces have come a long way, but their basic function is unchanged: to move your teeth into alignment with gentle, steady pressure. Made individually to fit your mouth, the archwire slowly guides your teeth into place — a bit like a glacier you can't see moving, though your teeth won't take nearly as long. On average, patients wear braces for anywhere from 6 months to 2 years.
During the journey your teeth may loosen slightly — this is intentional and nothing to worry about. The surrounding tissues and bone grow to support each tooth in its new position, and soon you'll have the smile you've always dreamed of.
After braces
You may even feel a little strange once your braces are removed — you've had plenty of time to get used to them. It's the perfect moment to show off your results.
