Laser Periodontal Treatment Aimed at the Bacteria Behind Gum Disease
The key to treating periodontal disease is to eliminate, or significantly reduce, the number of certain aggressive bacteria in your gum pockets, and to stop them from coming back. Duo-Lase is the laser periodontal treatment Dr. Ole Behrens developed to do this. It starts with a microbiological test, so we know which bacteria are behind your gum disease before we plan anything.
After your teeth have been cleaned by our hygienists, two lasers are used over several sessions. In photodynamic pocket decontamination, an Nd:YAG laser removes the bacteria that cause the disease and calms inflammation in the gum. A diode laser then provides bio-stimulation, supporting healing and collagen production in the gum and bone. On average, treatment takes 10 laser sessions, up to three a week.
For many patients, it is a non-invasive alternative to the traditional surgical treatment of periodontal disease. So far, ~96% of our patients who have completed the prescribed treatment have been successful.

Sessions are usually carried out without anaesthetic, and there's no downtime, so most people go straight back to work or their day.
