Sinus Graft
When replacing back teeth in the upper jaw there is often not enough bone available. In these cases, artificial bone is injected into the sinus. This procedure is called sinus grafting – a skilled surgeon can deliver very predictable results in this area. Without the general success of this technique, many patients would be unable to have implants in a part of the mouth where teeth are so commonly missing.

Without a Sinus Graft, it would not be possible to place implants in this case.
The bone is too thin.
The Sinus Graft is a technique of raising the sinus floor so that there is sufficient space to augmentation additional bone that will help support dental implants.
We need a minimum of 10mm bone thickness to support an implant.
Picture 2
The 1st molar was removed and only a thin layer of bone is present. Like in Picture 1 above, without a Sinus Graft, it would not be possible to place implants in this case. The bone is too thin.
Picture 3
The sinus floor has been lifted and filled with bone grafting material. About 6 months later the implant will be placed.
Procedure:
A small opening is created in the sinus and then filled with the calcium granules.
